Rod Heard--International Representative
Rod Heard began his union career in 1992 as a member UAW Local 163, when he was hired as a production specialist at Detroit Diesel.
Soon, Heard’s interest in unionism bore fruit and his motto of “Always putting the membership first while daring to be different in striving for success” served him well. He was elected to the UAW Local 163’s Executive Board and served as an elected officer for 13 consecutive years from 1995-2008. Heard was elected vice president in 2002 and served two terms. He was appointed to the staff of the International Union by U.A.W. President Ron Gettelfinger in 2008 and assigned to Region 1A under the jurisdiction of Regional Director Rory Gamble.
His assignments include Detroit Diesel, Chrysler (Dundee Engine), Tower Automotive, Martinrea, Axle Alliance and various IPS units. Heard is the coordinator of the Region 1A Young Workers Council and co-coordinator of Recreation Council.
Heard is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University where he earned a BA Degree, as a scholarship athlete in football. He successfully translated his excellence in athletics and commitment to community service by mentoring and coaching youth football for over eight years.
He and his wife Mata are the proud parents of Mia and Roderick.
